After watching the parade or attending mass, a St. Patrick's Day party may be the perfect way to end the celebration. St. Patrick's Day parties are about food, music and drinks and planning one can be a lot of fun.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Green sheets, blankets or tablecloths
  • Construction paper
  • Markers, pens and pencils
  • St. Patrick's Day clip art and figures
  1. Step 1

Focus on St. Patrick's Day colors: green and orange. Get a green tablecloth and napkins, green and orange balloons, paper plates and posters featuring shamrocks and other St. Patrick's Day icons.

  2. Step 2

Set up a buffet table full of green food and drinks. Adding a few drops of green food coloring to any food will give you the right look without affecting the flavor and consistency. Green beer, green cakes and green ginger bread are all traditional St. Patrick's Day fare.

  3. Step 3

Change your regular bulbs for green ones or hang green Christmas lights around the room for a softer look. Green candles are also a good idea.

  4. Step 4

Buy confetti in the form of small shamrocks and use it to decorate by spreading it on tables and serving dishes. Choose plastic rather than paper, so it doesn't fly around and mix with the food.

  5. Step 5

Play traditional Irish songs or invite guests to watch a show featuring traditional dancing (such as Riverdance) on DVD. Having the sound playing softly in the background is enough to enhance the mood, even if nobody actually sits down to watch. If you know anyone who can play the bagpipes, it's a huge bonus.

  6. Step 6

Decorate with posters and banners featuring limericks and traditional Irish sayings. Simply write them in large letters on paper posters or Styrofoam squares, and then hang them around the room. During the night, encourage guests to use them as starting points for toasts or charade games.

  7. Step 7

Use a large green blanket or sheet to cover your sofa or to use as an impromptu curtain.

Tips & Warnings
  • Start the celebration early by using party invitations featuring St. Patrick's Day images or colors. If you have trouble finding them at your local party shop, you can decorate your own, using green construction paper and some clip art.
