Traditional beef stew is very good but spanish beef stew is even better. This is a recipe that has been handed down in my family from our Cuban ancestors. It is incredibly simple to prepare and your family will love it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stew Beef
  • Olive Oil
  • 1 small onion
  • Salt and pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Oregano
  • Bijo
  • Cumin
  • Bay leaf
  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Cabbage
  • 1 small can of tomato sauce
  • White rice
  1. Step 1

Sauté onion in olive oil in large stew pot.

  2. Step 2

Brown the stew meat in the bottom of the pot with a dash of salt, pepper and garlic powder.

  3. Step 3

Cover the stew meat with water and add the can of tomato sauce.

  4. Step 4

Sprinkle oregano, garlic powder and bijo over the top of the stew.

  5. Step 5

Lightly sprinkle with cumin and add the bay leaf.

  6. Step 6

Bring your Spanish beef stew to a boil, then cook on medium for about 1 hour with the lid cocked.

  7. Step 7

Add the vegetables right away or about an hour before serving.

  8. Step 8

    Serve over white rice.

Tips & Warnings
  • The longer you cook the stew, the more tender the meat will be.
  • Bijo can be found in most supermarkets on the aisle that has specialty foods.
  • This recipe is perfect for making in a slow cooker or crock-pot.
  • Don't cover the stew. Keep the lid cocked just a bit.
