Step 1
Pick a style of welding apron that you prefer. Some welders feel that they just need a welding apron that wraps at the waist. This gives minimal coverage from the waist to right above the knees. Other welders want or need additional coverage protection with a full welding apron. This looks like a chef's apron, as it covers the entire front of the welder, secures over the shoulder or behind the neck and wraps around at the waist. Unlike a chef's apron, this one is made of extremely durable leather. Both styles have some variations in them and some even come with a utility pocket.

Step 2
Purchase a welding apron that is within your budget. The lower budget welding aprons will be the aprons that cover from the waist to the knees or a "waist apron." These have prices that will start around $10 each, so they are quite affordable. The full-coverage welding apron or the "bib apron" is a little more expensive, depending upon the quality, straps and sizes. These start as little as $15 and go up from there.

Step 3
Shop for the welding apron you want or need at welding suppliers, retailers for construction safety clothing and even at online Internet sites.

Step 4
Ask about warranty information regarding your welding apron just as you would any other piece of safety equipment you purchase.
