When money is tight, it can be hard to get into the spirit of Christmas--especially when Christmas tree ornaments are selling for $5, $10 or even $50 apiece. Fortunately, it’s possible to give your Christmas tree a beautiful, personal touch without breaking the bank. Here’s how to take those cheap, glass ball ornaments and make them your own.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Several dozen inexpensive glass ball ornaments
  • Silver and/or gold craft pens
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Sequins, beads or other small, sparkly craft items
  • Ornament hangers
  1. Step 1

Buy several dozen inexpensive glass ball ornaments. You have to make a decision here. Do you want ornaments in a variety of colors, a few select colors (such as red and gold) or just one color? It’s a matter of personal preference, so choose what you like best.

  2. Step 2

Make a list of short holiday quotes from your favorite Christmas songs, movies and stories. Short means short--perhaps five to seven words. Examples include “Joy to the world!” and “dashing through the snow.”

  3. Step 3

Using your gold and/or silver craft pens, write the quotes carefully on the glass ball ornaments, either on just one side or circling the ornament.

  4. Step 4

Depending on your level of artistic skill, you can also make drawings on your ornaments, such as stars and candy canes.

  5. Step 5

You can hang your embellished ornaments now, or you can add some extra sparkle. Using a hot glue gun, carefully apply sequins, beads or other sparkly craft items to your glass ball ornaments. This is where you can give your Christmas tree a theme, if you wish: Add tiny seashells to match a beach theme or vintage buttons to create an ambiance of holidays past.

  6. Step 6

Hang your ornaments on the tree with ribbon or wire ornament hangers. If you’re really pressed for cash, unfold cheap metal paper clips and use those instead.

Tips & Warnings
  • These crafty ornaments can also serve as inexpensive, personalized gifts.
  • Be careful: Both glass and hot glue can create safety hazards.
