How to Measure Hat Size
Tired of those adjustable plastic straps on the backs of your baseball caps? If so, you're ready for a fitted hat. But first, you have to know your correct hat size. Hats, like clothing, vary in actual fit from style to style and manufacturer to manufacturer, so trying on before you buy is always wise. However, with a basic measurement you'll be able to get started, and place online orders without too much guesswork. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Hold the end of a flexible tape measure to the middle of your forehead. If you only have a standard metallic tape measure, use a piece of string.
-
2
Wrap the tape or string around your head until it meets the starting point. It should be above your ears, resting right at the point where you want your hat to rest — anywhere from 1/8 inches to 1/2 inches above the ears.

-
3
Make sure the tape measure or string is snug around your head, but don't gather it too tightly. It should be comfortable — a tight hat will give you a headache.
-
4
Jot down the measurement. If you used a piece of string, measure the string against a standard tape measure.
-
5
Convert the measurement to a standard hat size. If you're placing an online order, check the vendor's website for a sizing chart that is specific to its products. Otherwise, a general search for "hat size conversion chart" will yield plenty of results.

Tips & Warnings
If you have any doubts, measure several times or have a friend measure for you.
Do not pull tightly on the measuring tape. It should be snug, but comfortable, just like you want your hat to be.
