Do you hate to throw away those old Christmas cards you get every year because they are so beautiful and colorful? Why not make gift tags this year out of those cards? Not only is this an easy project to do, but it can be enjoyed by all ages.

Difficulty: Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old Christmas cards
  • Hole punch
  • Colorful holiday ribbon
  • Scissors
  1. 1

Using old Christmas cards to make name tags is not only a fun project, but is a way to recycle paper by creating beautiful hand made gift tags for gifts. These gift tags don't have to be used just at Christmas time, but can be made for any gift giving occasion.

  2. 2

Take an old Christmas card and tear off the back part. There is really no appropriate size to a gift tag, but usually it is 2"x 2" or smaller. The size of the gift tag will depend on the size of the gift, so if you have a larger gift, you can use a larger gift tag.

  3. 3

Cut out the design you want. You can be creative with your cutting by choosing shapes that are round, square, elongated, etc. Some cards are raised and embossed. Cut around the entire shape for a different look. Experiment with cutting different shapes.

  4. 4

After you cut out your shape, punch a hole in one of the corners of the shape and thread some colorful ribbon through it so you can attach it to a gift. Sometimes the design on the card looks nice with a small fold. After you have cut your design out, fold the card in half and address it with a "to and from" on the inside.

These hand made gift tags also look nice hanging on a tree. Once you make one, you won't want to stop! Kids love to help and they will also enjoy punching a hole in the gift tag and helping thread the ribbon too. Happy Crafting!
