Exfoliate for Men

Exfoliation, which involves the scrubbing off of dead skin cells from the face or other parts of the body, is becoming more and more popular with men. Exfoliation effectively cleans the pores of your skin, reducing skin irritation and pimples and leaving your skin with a healthy glow. It even makes shaving easier, which is the single best reason for men to exfoliate. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the right foaming cleanser which will help you to exfoliate. Pick a cleanser that is formulated especially for men, since a man's skin is very different from a woman's due to whiskers, larger pores and sweat glands and denser blood vessels. A good exfoliating cleanser should contain natural ingredients such as sea salt, pumice or granulated fruit seeds.

    • 2

Use the proper tool to exfoliate, such as a loofah, abrasive sponge or pumice bar. Loofahs may be the most effective since they can create lather more efficiently, which will make the scrubbing process easier and less irritating for your skin.

    • 3

Exfoliate your face by rinsing it with warm water and gently applying the exfoliating cleanser, working it into your skin using small, circular motions. Moisten the loofah or sponge so that it will be just abrasive enough to remove dead skin without making your face feel raw and irritated afterward.

    • 4

Rinse the cleaner from your face completely with cold water in order to close the pores of the skin. Pat dry with a clean, soft towel.

    • 5

Jump in the shower or bath and scrub your back and chest in the same way, using the same cleanser and loofah. You may want to purchase a loofah that is mounted on a stick to get to those hard-to-reach areas on your back. Rinse thoroughly with cool water as well.

    • 6

Apply a moisturizer to your face, chest and back after you exfoliate. This will help to soothe and protect the newly exposed skin, and allow it to grow in a healthy manner.

    • 7

Decide upon a proper schedule to exfoliate your skin. While exfoliating on a daily basis would be much too hard on your skin, three times per week may be more realistic.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may want to consider exfoliating gloves, which can help you to apply the exfoliating cleaners to more difficult and sensitive areas such as around your eyes and on the sides of your nose.

  • Scrubbing too hard when exfoliating can defeat your purpose by irritating the skin.
