How to Clean a Really Filthy Toilet

There is nothing more disgusting than a filthy looking toilet. It doesn't matter what kind of stain it is, it just looks horrible. How can you clean a really old filthy toilet and save the money of replacing it? There's a few things to try.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • White Vinegar
  • Denture Cleaning Tablets
  • Bleach
  • Pumice or wet/dry fine grit sandpaper
  • scouring powder

Step1
Try the easiest things first. Drop a denture tablet into the toilet. Leave it in for several hours and then flush. If you notice an improvement, try it a few more times and see if it does the trick. If it doesn't do it all move to step 2.
Step2
Put a gallon of white vinegar on the stove. While it's heating, remove as much water from the toilet bowl as you can. You can use a plunger or pour a big potful of water into it. When the vinegar gets to a rolling boil, pour it into the toilet. Let it stand for a few hours and then flush. Repeat if necessary. If it still looks dingy, try the last chance I've found for getting it clean.
Step3
Empty the toilet bowl as before. Rub a pumice or a wet/dry piece of sandpaper over the stains lightly. You may want to use gloves to make it easier on your hands. After everything else is tried, this is a last resort move that professionals sometimes use. Keep the pumice or sandpaper wet and keep rubbing lightly until its clean.
