How to Draw Anime Humans
Drawing anime cartoons is a fun hobby that artists of any level can do. While your level of drawing expertise may vary, there are several simple steps to follow when learning how to draw in an anime style. By far the most distinctive type of anime subject is human characters, so start your anime drawing by learning the distinct features of anime people.
Instructions
-
Draw the body
-
1
Learn to draw the basic human form in an anime style. If you can draw a basic human form, transform it into an anime person by exaggerating certain features.
-
2
Exaggerate female features by making the waist higher and the legs and neck longer and thinner. Depending on the character, you may also want to accentuate muscle definition in the arms, legs, and abs.
-
-
3
Exaggerate the male form by defining the muscles, especially in the chest, shoulders and arms, as well as making the waist thinner. While you may not think of the male form as "shapely" in the same sense as you would the female form, drawing anime men requires that you think of the body in terms of block shapes wherever possible to enhance the muscular appearance.
Draw the head
-
4
Draw a realistically proportioned head as a beginning. As with the body, the head of an anime character will be an exaggerated version of a realistic head.
-
5
Alter the nose and chin first, making them pointed and protruding. Female facial features should be smaller than male features, but you can add character to all of your anime people by manipulating the nose and chin to make them more or less pronounced.
-
6
Make the mouth small, consisting of a single curved line, or very large and open, depending on the situation. Make the eyes similarly either very large and round when open or small, curved lines when closed.
-
7
Define special features such as the hair, ears, eyelashes, eyebrows, iris, pupil and shine in the eyes.
-
8
Use the facial features to dictate the character's emotions and context. The eyebrows, eyes and mouth are the most effective features for highlighting excitement, surprise, anger and other emotions.
