Backyard weddings can be a great option for tieing the knot. Whether it is your own backyard or someone elses, backyard weddings can be a lot of fun. Whether you are looking for an intimate affair with close friends and family or a large wedding in a spacious backyard, anything is possible with a backyard wedding.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • A backyard
  • Computer
  • Phone
  • Wedding vendors

Step1
Set your budget. While it may seem like backyard weddings will save you money, they can easily get out of hand and cost you more than you expected.

When creating your wedding budget, take into consideration things like tenting, rentals (linens, tables, glassware, etc.) and catering.
Step2
The location. Be realistic about the size of your wedding and the backyard that you want to get married in. Is it big enough for a tent? You want to make sure that there is somewhere for your guests to go if it rains.

Also, be sure to check with your local town or city about any permits that might be required.
Step3
The menu. You have two choices. The first is to cook everything yourself with the help of close friends and family, or hire a caterer.

The second option is definitely the easier, however if you are trying to save money doing it yourself might be the choice for you.
Step4
Hire wedding entertainment. DJs and bands can play outdoors, but you want to make sure there is enough room and electrical outlets for them to plug into.

Again, you may want to check with local authorities about any noise restrictions to avoid any fines or disturbances during your wedding.
Step5
Decorate the backyard. Consider picking a theme for your wedding such as garden, flowers (daisy, rose, etc.) or seasonal (fall, spring, etc.).

Tips & Warnings

  • Interview caterers and ask what their experience is with outdoor weddings.
  • Consider hiring a wedding planner to help tie it all together.
  • Always check with local authorities for any permit requirements or ordinances.
  • Have the rental, entertainment and catering companies look at the backyard prior to the wedding day.
  • Make sure there is enough room for guest parking in the neighborhood.
