Shabby Chic decorating is perfect for those who love old, time worn objects. Faded quilts, well worn furniture and vintage art all work together to make a home as comfortable as your favorite old sweater. No matter if you are redecorating your kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom, shabby chic looks great all through your home.

Instructions

    Bedroom

  1. Step 1

Make a shabby chic headboard out of old wooden doors, iron gates, or any other recycled household piece that can be fastened to the wall.

  2. Step 2

Dress your bed in a mix of faded rose printed linens. Cover with a vintage Matlesse bedspread and place a colorful, handmade quilt or afghan across the foot of the bed.

  3. Step 3

Toss on a variety of different sized throw pillows made from materials such as Battenberg lace, chintz and gingham.

  4. Step 4

Skip the matched bedroom set. Instead, use an old bathroom commode as a nightstand, or an old metal cabinet painted a pale pastel color. Hang your clothes in a beautiful old armoire.

  5. Living Room

  6. Step 1

Cover your existing sofa with slipcovers of faded floral fabric or clean white denim and toss on throw pillows of floral and gingham fabric.

  7. Step 2

Pick up some old paintings of flowers, fruits or landscapes. Group them together for a shabby chic wall mural.

  8. Step 3

Bring old iron garden furniture inside for coffee tables, end tables and extra seating.

  9. Step 4

Display family photos in antique silver frames, on a shelf or console.

  10. Kitchen

  11. Step 1

Pick up assorted transfer ware pieces at local flea markets or antique shops. Mix and match pieces to achieve a vintage shabby chic look.

  12. Step 2

Display your china on a hutch or sideboard.

  13. Step 3

Cover the table with lace tablecloths, layered with gingham and calico cloths. For special events, use the skirt of a 1950s prom dress as a tablecloth.

  14. Step 4

Hang wrought iron chandeliers, embellished with metal flowers, over the table for soft lighting during mealtime.
