Whether you've build a classic wood playhouse or built one out of foam board, the fun really begins when it's time to decorate. The outside appearance is important because it's what people will first see. But the inside is what really counts because it's where your kids will be spending all their time. Here's a few ideas that will personalize the inside of your playhouse without breaking the bank.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Latex paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Wallpaper border
  • Child sized furniture
  • Acrylic paints
  • Carpet remnant
  • Curtains
  • Pillowcase
  • Needle and thread
  • Curtain rod
  1. Step 1

Start with a coat of paint. No matter what the walls are made of, a coat of fresh paint will add a nice clean finish and the color you choose will set the stage for the rest of the decorations.

  2. Step 2

Add wallpaper border to the walls. You can pick up single rolls on clearance for just a couple of dollars and you can choose a pattern that compliments the painted walls.

  3. Step 3

Locate child sized furniture at garage sales and flea markets. Most kids outgrow good wood furniture quickly so you can pick nice chairs and tables for a fraction of what they would cost new.

  4. Step 4

Let your child paint some of their own wall art on one of the walls. They can put their hand prints all over the wall in different colors or give them a paintbrush so they can unleash their artistic talents.

  5. Step 5

Cover the floor with a carpet remnant or throw rug. It will not only add color but help absorb sound as well.

  6. Step 6

Add to the outer appearance as well as the interior and give the playhouse a homey feel with curtains. A simple pillowcase can easily be adapted by stitching a pocket along the end and hanging on a curtain rod.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stick to light paint colors for the interior of the playhouse. Most playhouses rely on natural lighting so the lighter the paint the brighter the playhouse interior will appear.
