Find the project that you're comfortable with. This project should be one that is fairly short, you have some of the tools or materials for, and makes sense to you. A project that requires you to buy a lot of materials and tools and sounds like Greek to you is probably a bad pick for your first project.

Answer any questions you have about the project before you start. There is always the possibility that a singe step to any DIY project can turn out into a huge portion of the work. Once you understand the process of doing your DIY project thoroughly, you can begin.
