If you want perfect crib bedding for your new baby, consider sewing it yourself. Sewing crib bedding is rather simple and requires only a basic knowledge of sewing. Enjoy knowing that your baby is resting comfortably with crib bedding sewn by you.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the crib's dimensions. Typically crib bedding consists of a bumper, quilt and matching dust ruffle. Go to the fabic store and select a pattern. Look for pattern books by various manufacterers. Find a pattern that fits the decor of baby's nursery.

  2. Step 2

Pick out fabric. Choose cotton or fleece for your baby's delicate skin. Buy enough batting for the middle of the bumper and quilt.

  3. Step 3

Follow the pattern or use heavy tissue paper to create one. Use a yard stick to measure and cut out the size of the bumper, quilt and ruffle. Be sure to include a 5/8-inch seam allowance on all sides.

  4. Step 4

Put right sides together and sew the edges closed for the quilt and dust ruffle. Leave a hole about 4 inches wide to add batting.

  5. Step 5

Place the measured and cut batting on top of the bumper or quilt. Start at one corner and tightly roll until you can flip the fabric and batting inside out through the hole. Stitch the hole closed.

  6. Step 6

Add ties to the bumper to secure the bumper to the crib's rails. Opt to quilt the bumper and comforter to ensure stability.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to match up stripes or other prints, so everything is going in the same direction.
  • You can also sew pillow covers and sheets.
