How to Write a Wedding Newsletter

A wedding newsletter is a personalized alternative to the traditional wedding program. The newsletter tells your guests about the ceremony and reception details, but also includes so much more. If you enjoy writing and want to do something informative and fun, write a wedding newsletter.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Desktop publishing software
  • Paper of your choice

Step1
Include the standard wedding program information. List the bride and groom's names, wedding date, time and location; names of the people in the wedding party, ceremony details, music, readings, names of the bride and groom's parents and the officiant.
Step2
Tell the bride and groom's story in a mini-a biography of the bride and include funny tidbits about their lives. Then describe where and how they met and fell in love. Provide a romantic explanation of how the groom (or bride) popped the question.
Step3
Introduce the wedding party. Tell a little about each member of the wedding party including relationship to the bride or groom, things they like to do together and any interesting characteristics. Insert individual photos or take a group photo at a pre-wedding party.
Step4
Add personal touches. Include any of the following in your newsletter to make it interesting: a special poem or toast, tribute to a loved one, article about the bride and groom's hobbies or favorite charity, trivia about the bride and groom and acknowledgement of the parents.
Step5
Use the newsletter to provide table assignments. Instead of using place cards, list each guest's table assignment in the wedding newsletter.
Step6
Design the newsletter layout. Use a template from a desktop publishing program like Microsoft Publisher or create your own design. Add lots of photographs and some clip art to make the newsletter artistic and visually interesting. (See the related eHow article titled "How to Create a Newsletter in MS Publisher.") If you don't have access to a desktop publishing program, use Microsoft Word, however, the design features are limited.

Tips & Warnings

  • Print extra Wedding Newsletters to send to friends and family who couldn't attend the wedding.
  • Don't forget to proofread and spell check the newsletter before printing.
