How to Make Pork Rinds


If you love the taste of commercial pork rinds, you can make them at home. They taste great with their crunchy skin and chewy texture and they're low in carbohydrates. Follow these steps to make pork rinds.

  • Buy a pork roast with the fat still attached on one side. You can use rump or butt roast to make rinds.

  • Cut the pork fat off the roast in one large piece. Leave as much of the fat as possible.

  • Cook the roast in the oven as directed.

  • Cut the pork fat into 1-inch pieces. Place the pieces skin side up on a foil pie plate or on a cookie sheet. You can also add a little water to the pie plate to help dissolve some of the fat.

  • Sprinkle the skin with seasoning salt or any spices of your choice.

  • Cook in the oven at 325 degrees until crispy on top. Remove from oven. Cool and eat.

  • Deep fry the pork rinds if you don't want to cook them in the oven. Place the rinds in a pot of oil or lard. Fry until brown but not hard. Remove, drain, cool and eat.

Tips & Warnings

  • Let the rinds cool slightly before you eat them.
  • Watch your teeth. These can be very difficult to chew.
  • Be careful of splattering fat when you are deep-frying.
