Things You'll Need:
- Weather map
-
Step 1
Consult a weather map. This map will show you all of the pressure systems in a certain area of the world. Blizzards typically occur in the northern areas of the world, so if you're looking for a blizzard, you should concentrate the bulk of your efforts to these locations, especially those areas in the northern United States and Canada.
-
Step 2
Look for a high-pressure system. High-pressure systems are depicted on weather maps as blue circles with capital Ls in them. The existence of a high-pressure system is one of the key weather conditions to create a blizzard.
-
Step 3
Look for a low-pressure system. Low-pressure systems are shown on weather maps by red circles with capital Ls in them.
-
Step 4
Check to see if a point exists where a high-pressure system is coming into contact with an area of a low-pressure system. If this happens, the circumstances are suitable for a blizzard.
-
Step 5
Look for precipitation in the area. In order for there to be a blizzard, there has to be moisture in the air to create snow. The combination of the high and low pressure areas will often create enough moisture to make precipitation.
-
Step 6
Look for freezing temperatures. The temperature has to be such that the moisture can freeze into snow.
