Margaritas are more than just a refreshing tropical drink. They represent celebration and fun and unfortunately very many calories. According to most diet programs, margaritas are among the highest calorie drinks. But they're so delicious! So instead of giving them up altogether if you're on a diet or just calorie-conscious, try this calorie-trimmed version that will quench your margarita craving and cut back on calories!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Shot Glass
  • Crushed Ice
  • Juice of fresh limes or store-bought lime juice
  • Diet Fresca Soda or Diet Lemon-Lime Soda
  • Triple Sec
  • Tequilla
  • 4 Glass tumblers
  • Margarita Salt
  • Fresh lime slices for garnish
Step1
This recipe makes about 4 drinks.

In a pitcher, mix together:

4 shots of tequila (preferably 100% Agave Tequila for the best taste)
3 shots of Triple Sec
3 shots of fresh-squeezed lime juice or store-bought lime juice
Step2
Wet the rim of the 4 glass tumblers either with water, or for an extra-added kick, take a cut lime and rub it around the rim of each glass. Then dip each glass into the margarita salt.
Step3
Fill each glass tumbler 3/4 of the way with crushed ice. Then, fill each glass 1/2 of the way with the margarita mixture. Lastly, fill the remainder of each glass with diet Fresca soda or diet lemon-lime soda and garnish with a slice of lime, if desired.
Step4
Enjoy your low-calorie refreshing margarita!

Tips & Warnings

  • It is important to use diet soda in this recipe
  • Do not substitute plastic tumblers for glass tumblers because the margarita salt will not stick to plastic
  • Drink Responsibly
  • Do not drink and drive

on 7/4/2008 Each ounce of Tequila, Triple-Sec, and Sweet-and-Sour Mix has an average of 75, 64, and 25 calories per ounce, respectively. Therefore, the component that has more calories, on average, per ounce is the Tequila. Now if you are asking because you want to reduce the amount of calories in your Margarita, you can only work replacing the Triple-Sec or the Sweet-and-Sour Mix (Margarita without Tequila is something else…) In the market you can find low-cal Sweet–and-Sour and you can used diet Lime Soda instead of the Triple-Sec. Don’t forget the ice and salt, which will work toward making the whole experience feeling like the real deal. “Disfrutalo…”
