One of the biggest problems with a ski outfit is a jacket with a limp, stiff look and no fluff after it has been washed. Washing and drying the jacket the proper way will eliminate that problem and leave you with the look you originally purchased.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Gojo or another oil-based hand cleaner
  • 1 to 2 clean tennis balls, or tennis shoes
  • Ski jacket

Step1
Check the jacket for stains. If you have grease stains on the jacket, treat them with Gojo or another oil-based hand cleaner.
Step2
Put the jacket into the washer on a gentle setting. Use a detergent for special care fabrics if the jacket is down filled. Always follow the manufacturer's label instructions.
Step3
Throw one or two tennis balls in the dryer, or add freshly cleaned tennis shoes. Put the ski jacket in and dry on the manufacturer's recommended setting. The tennis balls or shoes will beat on the jacket while drying and make certain that the down does not clump in any area.
Step4
Hang the jacket in a spot that it can breathe when it's dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the jacket simply need fluffing and not washing, put it into the dryer on a low or fluff setting and add 1 or 2 tennis balls. Turn on the dry and fluff for about 15 minutes. The beating of the tennis balls will fluff the jacket. It is ready to wear immediately and as fluffy as the day you bought it.
  • Wash your old tennis shoes before you wash the ski jacket. Set them aside while you wash your jacket. Dry the two together. The tennis shoes beating on the jacket will fluff the jacket and keep the down from clumping as they both dry.
  • Whether you are using tennis balls or tennis shoes, make certain that they are clean.
