Remove the books from high temperature places (77 degrees F to 88 degrees F). Place the books in a humidity controlled environment (below 70 percent) and then start the process to remove mildew.

Dry the books if they are damp due to mildew formation. Gently remove any loose mildew mold with a brush or clean piece of cloth that has been soaked in mild soapy water. Pat dry the affected area with a paper towel and let it stand until completely dry.

Try the following for a quick mildew removal. Sprinkle cornstarch between the pages of the books and turn on the air conditioner or fan. Alternately, spread the pages of the books in an airy room and leave for a few hours. Brush off the entire residue after the books dry out. A third option for a quick and effective treatment of mildew is to use a water resistant fungicidal spray (follow the instructions on the product label).

Use an alternative method and place the books in the sunlight to kill and remove mildew germs. Sweep off the mildew remains.
