Registries are not just for weddings and baby showers anymore. Many retailers offer registries or "wish lists" online and in-store. There are also websites that offer registry services where you can choose items from different stores or from a selection they offer. Now adults, as well as kids, can write their list to "Santa." Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Decide whether to make a Christmas gifts registry online or in-store. Check to see if your favorite store has a wish list or a registry service. Amazon.com is a good choice for a registry because it offers a variety of items.
Step2
Use a free website service, such as Myregistry.com or Santasbiglist.com to make your Christmas gift registry. Or, create your own from scratch using wikispace.com or other blog site.
Step3
Include information about your clothing and size, hobbies and favorite colors, restaurants and stores. Remember that not everyone will choose something from your registry. People who prefer to give gift cards will appreciate knowing your likes and buy accordingly.
Step4
Select items in a variety of price ranges, to fit everyone's budgets. Be reasonable and realistic. Unless you have a pretty wealthy social circle, forget about the 54-in. plasma TV. You can include it with a "wishful" thinking note. Pick items from various categories, like entertainment, books, cooking and clothing.
Step5
Tell family and friends about your registry in a playful, undemanding manner. Let them know, it's just kind of an FYI, especially if you're an adult. If you're under 12, they may be more understanding.
Step6
Plan to maintain the site for the registry for the entire holiday season. The traditional holiday shopping period begins the day after Thanksgiving and ends the day before New Years. Decide when to put it up and when to take it down.
Step7
Revamp your Christmas gift registry into a birthday registry after the holidays, if your registry was well received.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider potential viewers of your registry.
  • Think twice before selecting that racy piece of lingerie or similar personal item if co-workers or members of your church choir could potentially see it.
  • Just because you let friends and family know what you want for Christmas doesn't mean you'll get it.
