Pee Wee Herman, created by comedian Paul Reubens, made his television debut on the Pee Wee Herman Show in 1981. The follow-up, Pee Wee's Playhouse ran from 1986 through 1990. In that time two movies featuring the funny man in the gray suit were released: Pee-Wee's Big Adventure in 1985 and Big Top Pee Wee in 1988. Pee-Wee's Big Holiday is scheduled for release in 2016. Make your own Pee Wee Herman costume out of items you may have in your closet or can easily find at a second-hand store.
Things You'll Need
- Gray suit
- White dress shirt (short sleeved)
- Red bow tie
- White pocket square
- White shoes
- White dress socks
- Red lip stain
Step 1: Customize the Suit
Pee Wee Herman's costume is all about the suit. Choose a slim-fit gray suit. Hem the pants to about an inch above the ankle. The sleeves of the jacket should also be about an inch or two shorter than you would usually wear. Place a white pocket square in the jacket pocket.
Step 2: Complete the Outfit
Pee Wee Herman wears a short sleeved white shirt under his gray suit. A bright red skinny bow tie is also an absolute essential. As for footwear, start with white socks that are pulled up high, and add white dress shoes with black soles. The shortened gray pants show off these white socks prominently.
Step 3: The Makeup
A little bit of blush and red lip stain will give you the Pee Wee Herman face. Check out pictures of him to make sure you are getting the makeup right. As for hair, Pee Wee has a short brown haircut with gelled hair spiking straight up in the front.
Use iconic props such as a red bicycle to complete the Pee Wee Herman costume. If you don't have a bicycle, learn the "Pee Wee Herman Dance."
