Origami is the art of paper folding, and you can use it to make a mobile that will hang from your ceiling. All you need are some simple materials.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12-inch dowel rod
  • Kite string
  • Origami shapes
  • Three 6-inch dowel rods

    Work on the Origami Design

  1. Step 1

Pick a shape you want to use in your mobile. You can find different origami designs in books, or you can search online for an origami shape to use in your mobile.

  2. Step 2

Practice your origami design. Once you can make your shape easily with almost no mistakes, you're ready to start folding shapes to make your origami mobile.

  3. Step 3

Fold the nine shapes that you will need for your origami mobile. If you make a mistake while folding, don't worry. Just start that shape over again.

  4. Put Your Mobile Together

  5. Step 1

Tie a string to the center of your 12-inch dowel rod. You will use this string to hang your mobile.

  6. Step 2

Make the second level of your mobile. Tie one string to each end of your 12-inch dowel rod. The string should be one inch from the 12-inch dowel rod's end.

  7. Step 3

Connect each string to the center of a 6-inch dowel rod. Make sure that both 6-inch dowel rods hang 6 inches below the 12-inch dowel rod. This will help balance your mobile.

  8. Step 4

Add a third level by tying a string from the center of the 12-inch dowel rod to the center of the last 6-inch dowel rod. This 6-inch rod should hang 12 inches below the longest dowel rod.

  9. Step 5

Add your origami shapes to the ends of the 6-inch dowel rod. On the ends of each 6-inch dowel rod, tie one shape so that it hangs 4 inches from the 6-inch rod. This will use 6 of your origami shapes.

  10. Step 6

Tie your remaining shapes to the middle of each 6-inch dowel rod. Make sure the shape hangs 5 inches below the 6-inch rod.

  11. Step 7

Hang up your mobile and enjoy!
