Although your office may tout an office party as a social event, you should not treat it as such. There are certain rules of conduct that your boss and co-workers expect from everyone. Save your wild side for a gathering with your friends and keep things tame at an office party.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Respond by the RSVP date. Let the party organizer known as soon as possible whether you will be attending the office party.
Step2
Wear conservative clothing. Keep any revealing clothing at home in the closet. Instead, put on something that is modest and appropriate for the type of event.
Step3
Drink a little. If alcohol is being served, partake in a conservative amount. You only want to consume a couple of drinks over the course of the entire party.
Step4
Eat a moderate amount of food. Try not to gorge yourself and eat several helpings if others are only eating a small amount.
Step5
Remember your manners. Reaching across the table for the salt or chewing with your mouth open make you seem rude.
Step6
Keep the conversation casual. An office party is not the time to gossip or put your boss on the spot about company policies or raises. Talk about work, but discuss topics that will not make anyone feel uncomfortable.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not become inebriated at an office party. The awkward fallout that will ensue is sure to make you regret your decision to drink too much.
  • Don't use bad language or tell dirty jokes. This type of behavior can make you appear unprofessional.
