How to Plan an Online Baby Shower

Today, we shop, run businesses and stay in touch with friends and family across the world--all virtually. With loved ones living further apart than ever, online baby showers have become increasingly popular. Since most are already used to communicating online, hosting an online baby shower can be a wonderful solution when you want to honor a mom-to-be with the help of those around the country or around the globe.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Talk with the expectant parents about your wish to hold an online baby shower for them. Make sure they are comfortable with the idea before moving forward.
Step2
Have the mom-to-be create a guest list. Since there is no location where everyone will join, there is no limit to how many you can accommodate.
Step3
Encourage the parents to register at several places offering online gift registries.
Step4
Send out traditional, snail mail invitations to the guest list. Be sure to include information regarding the appropriate gift registries.
Step5
Set up the online shower. Decide if you'd like the group to meet in a chat room, or if guests will be included in the sharing of a photo album from the event. Two websites to consider during your setup include webbabyshower.com and mommyparty.com.
Step6
Encourage simple gift giving from a distance. Items purchased from an online gift registry can be shipped, and gift cards can be mailed as well. Another gift idea includes a service local to the couple, such as house cleaning or a spa manicure or pedicure.
Step7
Use a webcam. This is a way to connect others if you want to make the shower an actual event. Guests can talk to mom and watch her open gifts.
