Clutter can be a source of stress. Is there a room in your house that is so cluttered that you feel overwhelmed when you enter it? Wouldn't you want to declutter it and be stress free? You can finally be able to let your friends in that room! Decluttering any room in a day is possible; the key is to just do it instead of avoiding the task.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Schedule a day and time that you will have as few distractions as possible. Take the phone off the hook and send the kids out with your spouse to the park or movies.

  2. Step 2

Gather two medium to large size boxes and a few garbage bags. Label one box for things you are keeping and the other box for donation. The garbage bags are for throwing out things that you do not need to keep.

  3. Step 3

Start at one corner of the room. Pick the messier corner first.

  4. Step 4

Place things that you have not used in several months and you will likely not use into the box marked for donation.

  5. Step 5

Fill the box marked for keeping with the items you are using and plan on using.

  6. Step 6

Throw everything else in the garbage bags for disposal.

  7. Step 7

Dust and wipe down the one corner that you have worked on and proceed to the next corner.

  8. Step 8

Go through the same process until all four corners are done.

  9. Step 9

Remove the two boxes and the garbage bags from the room.

  10. Step 10

    Vacuum or mop the room.

  11. Step 11

Arrange everything that you are keeping neatly back into the room.

  12. Step 12

Dispose of the garbage bags right away.

  13. Step 13

Take the box for donation to the local donation center promptly. Avoid letting it sit in another corner of the house as this only creates another pile of clutter.

  14. Step 14

    Enjoy your clutter free room!

Tips & Warnings
  • Look quickly through your items as you are sorting them. Do not get caught up reading every book, journal or paper. Doing so can greatly prolong your decluttering process.
