Things You'll Need:
- A cloth
- Water
- Glass cleaner (optional)
- Isopropyl Alcohol (if you have it)
-
Step 1
Turn off your screen. The fact that it's now black will make it easier to spot dirt and streaks.
-
Step 2
Grab the cleanest, smoothest cloth you can find. If you have a microfiber cloth, grab it!
Hint - look in eyeglass cases!
If not, no problem, just pick a cloth that has been washed many times. It's likely that it will be quite smooth. -
Step 3
If your monitor isn't very dirty, plain water may suffice.
If not, make a mixture of Isopropyl alcohol and water in equal parts (50/50) inside an empty Windex-like bottle. -
Step 4
Spray the mixture lightly on your cloth - not the monitor!
-
Step 5
Make one pass lightly to grab the big stuff. Then, refold your cloth so that you are using a new area.
-
Step 6
Spray some more mixture on your cloth and methodically wipe your screen from top to bottom, right to left.
-
Step 7
Turn on your screen, you're done!

on 1/19/2008 never use glass cleaner on an lcd. glass cleaner has ammonia in it and that will eat away at your lcd and cause things like funky colors and dead spots.

on 1/7/2008 " i lighly sprayed dixy glass cleaner on my lcd (so little so that it may no get inside the screen) and rubber it with a clean cloth. "
Always spray the cleaner on a cloth, then wipe the cloth on the screen.
If you spray directly on the screen, the liquid may leak down into the connector and permanently damage the screen.
It sounds like that may be what happened to your screen & is causing the weird colours.
