Step 1
Determine the location. Las Vegas is the king of the "run and gun" wedding. When deciding how to dress, determine where the wedding is. Is it a drive-through wedding or something more formal in a church or upscale hotel (like the Bellagio) ballroom?
-
Step 2
Stay cool. Las Vegas is in the middle of the desert. Before heading out to Las Vegas for the wedding, be sure to check the temperature. While all of the hotels and casinos are air conditioned, you may have to do some outside walking in between. Las Vegas hits 100 degrees at least half of the year. So if you're attending a Las Vegas wedding during that time, try to dress accordingly, even if it is a formal event. For women, dress in materials such as cotton, that breathes. For men, consider not wearing a tie. or perhaps even go with the sport coat over a t-shirt look. Since it's Vegas, dressing "down" is certainly allowed. And if it truly is that hot, the other guests will be dressed down as well.
-
Step 3
Change attire. If the wedding is in a formal church, with dinner and dancing to follow in a club or bar, don't be afraid to change. You can certainly be respectful by dressing "up" for the ceremony, and then slipping into something more comfortable for the reception portion of the evening.

Step 4
Go with it. Las Vegas is notorious for the theme wedding. This isn't a time to feel uncomfortable and cower into being a wall flower. This is a time to own it! If you're staying at the Hilton (which has a Star Trek theme) and the bride and groom are having a Star Trek themed wedding, don't hesitate to dive right in and dress as Captain Piccard yourself. Las Vegas is a place to let go, relax, and get away from the day to day grind. If it's a theme wedding, rent the costume and go all out. It's just like a costume party!
