How to Make a Flower Pen

There are those special fun occasions when you just want to jazz up a ballpoint pen. Flower pens look like a stiff stem with a beautiful bloom at the end. At gatherings where you want party guests to play games or sign a party book like baby showers and birthdays, these flower pens add just a little fun to the already festive occasion.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase plastic pens, green sticky floral tape, and artificial flowers and a craft store. The flowers will need to have stiff plastic or wire stems at least three inches long. Silk flowers seem to look best for this project. A nice touch would be to match the flowers to the theme of the party. Wedding showers could have the color the bride picked for the wedding or a baby shower thrown for a boy could have blue flowers.

    • 2

Gather your hot glue gun if you have one or a small tube of super glue. Also, you may need a pair of wire cutters to cut the stems of the flowers down.

    • 3

Wash your hands and put a sheet or a disposable cloth on your workspace. Warm up you hot glue gun or prepare the super glue. Remove the lids to all the pens that you will be decorating.

    • 4

Clip the flower stems to half the length of the pens. Being able to glue a long stem onto the pen gives the flower a little more security from falling off.

    • 5

Glue on the stem to the pen so that the flower appears to set on the bottom, not the writing side, of the pen. Hold it in place until it dries completely.

    • 6

Start taping at the flower end of the pen. Guide the tape while winding the pen in a circular motion. The tape should cover the entire pen down to the tip in one long vertical strip. Try on the lids to the pens. If they still fit, you can wrap them with the green tape also.

    • 7

Secure the tape by pressing it gently down with your fingers. Lay it to the side and start on the next pen.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add leaves or baby's breath to the flower to add some more color or texture to your pens.
