Step2
Present proof of age and identity. Be prepared to show valid photo identification (driver's license, military identification card, passport) in addition to certified copies of birth certificates.
Step3
Fill out the application and sign it in the presence of the marriage clerk. Applicants may also be asked to provide addresses, telephone numbers, states of birth, marriage officiator information and father's and mother's full names.
Step4
Pay the license fee and head to the altar. There is a mandatory 5-day waiting period between the time the application is made and the time the license is issued. The license is valid for 60 days after issuance.
Tips & Warnings
Applicants who have been married previously should bring the certified document that ended his or her last marriage such as a divorce decree, annulment paper or death certificate.
Female applicants who wish to keep their maiden name must elect to do so when the marriage license application is made; otherwise, their last name will officially become that of their husband's.
Marriage license requirements often change. Verify all information with the local marriage license office before making any wedding or travel arrangements.
