How to Remove Crayon Stains From Upholstery

Crayons and upholstery do not mix. Once a mark is made, the stain can be very difficult to remove. Here are some simple steps to get rid of the unsightly markings on your upholstery.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Car part lubricant such as WD-40
  • Paper towels
  • Soft cloth
  • Liquid dishwashing detergent
  • Sponge
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Dull knife
  • Warm water
  1. Step 1

    Scrape off excess crayon with the dull edge of a knife.

  2. Step 2

    Spray the affected area of upholstery with WD-40 or another car part lubricant.

  3. Step 3

    Leave the lubricant on for 3 minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Use a stiff bristle brush to scrub the stain.

  5. Step 5

    Wipe the area with paper towels.

  6. Step 6

    Respray the surface with the WD-40.

  7. Step 7

    Apply liquid dishwashing soap to the area.

  8. Step 8

    Continue to use the bristle brush and work the soap in a circular motion.

  9. Step 9

    Wipe the stain with a damp sponge.

  10. Step 10

    Repeat Steps 6 through 9 if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Test the process in an inconspicuous area before attempting it on a larger area to make sure the upholstery won't be damaged.
  • Check for cleaning instructions on the upholstery. Specific cleaning products may be recommended or prohibited.
