The Baptist denomination of the Christian church is a Protestant sect that believes in full-immersion baptism. They believe their faith dates back to the time of John the Baptist and his baptism of Jesus of Nazareth. Follow these steps to make Baptism part of your life.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bible
  • Commitment
  1. Step 1

Research the Baptist religion. You will find that Baptism and other Protestant religions have many things in common, but there are some striking and important differences.

  2. Step 2

Seek the advice of a pastor or church official; pastors are very open to questions. Any concerns or question you have about the faith, or a particular sect of Baptism, can most likely be answered by a pastor.

  3. Step 3

Be ready to make a proclamation of faith. In the Baptist church, baptisms do not take place until a person becomes an adult. Baptists believe that no one should be baptized without proclaiming Jesus as their savior.

  4. Step 4

Know that within this faith, baptism does not grant you salvation. The Baptist church does not believe that just because a person is baptized it necessarily follows that he or she will be saved. Baptists believe that good deeds on Earth and living by the word of God are the way to salvation.

  5. Step 5

Know that to Baptists, the Bible is the only authoritative interpretation of God’s word. Other books and people may be able to give some insight, but the Bible is the only voice of God.

  6. Step 6

Visit with other Baptists and learn about their faith. Learn about local and regional customs so you'll blend in well at the church.

  7. Step 7

Attend weekly mass and Bible study. Soak in the Baptist beliefs and begin applying them to your life.

Tips & Warnings
  • There is a central pastor at every church, but most members develop individual interpretations of the Bible and draw their own personal lessons.
  • Be ready to be part of a large group. Aside from Roman Catholics, Baptists are the largest Christian denomination in the United States.
  • Any religion should be researched, considered and understood before making a commitment.

on 12/29/2008 I think you might want to research the warning step also. The Roman Catholics and the Baptist are not the largest denominations any more. If you want to know more about baptism, look at the book of Acts, where everyone was obedient in baptizm before being declared a Christian. (With the exception of Corneilus in Acts 10, because he was the first Gentile converted and Peter needed to be convinced that the Gentiles could be accepted by God) And, the book of Romans, especially chapters 4,5 and 6
God Bless

on 11/27/2007 I agree that one just has to know what they are doing. instead of this being a baptist belief lets not lable it to a religion but a bible teaching. you do have to be bapized to be saved. Mark 16:16 " He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." so both belief and baptism are necessary. Look at the ethopian unich Acts 8. He is a great example of conversion. he confessed before his baptism after being taught about Jesus. this is all I'll say. I am not a baptist just one who believes only the Bible.

on 10/4/2007 Two glaring anachronisms, aside from the theological issues noted by other commentors:
The use of "baptism" for "Baptist belief system" is jarring; rather, "baptism" is the noun for the action of being baptized with water. For Baptists this is done by full immersion rather than pouring or sprinkling.
Second, the use of the word "mass" in place of "worship" or "Sunday service" show that the article author is from a Catholic background. Neither Protestants nor (Eastern) Orthodox Christians would normally use the word "mass" in this way.

on 4/8/2007 Step 3 is wrong. You do not have to be an adult to make a profession of faith. I have been a Baptist all of my 52 years. Became a Christian at 12. You just have to understand what you are doing. Some children become Christians as young as 5 or 6. You do have to profess your sins before you can be Baptized

on 1/16/2007 Step 4 is wrong. As a Baptist we do not believe that good works are akin to salvation. Asking Jesus into your life and repenting of your sins is the only true way to salvation. Good deeds naturally follow a Christ centered conversion. Hope this helps out a bit.
