One of my favorite websites is Evite, http://www.evite.com. Evite makes it so easy to invite people to parties or functions. It tracks RSVPs and let's you send out detailed information about your gathering.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Web Browser
  • Party to Plan
  • Email Addresses for your guests

Step1
Go to www.evite.com and setup an account.
Step2
Under "send free invitations" browse the dropdown to choose an appropriate theme for your event. Then hit the button, "Get Started"
Step3
Fill in the Required fields:

Name Your Event: Short description of event.

Hosted By: Person hosting the event.

Date and Time
Step4
Fill in the fields:

Location: Place you are hosting the party.

Guest List: Names and Email addresses for your guests.

Message to Guests (on invitation): Information that you would like your guests to have that relate to your gathering.
Step5
You can now either Save, Preview, or Send your Evite.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can check out who has viewed the Evite by going to the Host Version guest list and go to the section, "NOT YET REPLIED" and click the link, "View These Responses."
  • Some Evite emails will get stuck in SPAM filters. If you see someone listed in the "NOT YET REPLIED" section that would normally respond to your invitation, ask the person if they ever received your Evite.

on 3/25/2008 Just a note: Some people don't like evites. If they already have evite accounts, it's OK; but if they don't, you've just provided some fairly detailed personal information about your friends to Ticketmaster (which owns evite) and its business partners and subsidiaries. Evite sends web bugs along with the invitations, and they do spam people unless they explicitly sign up for an account and use the opt out feature. In fact, some people have reported that they spam you even if you do opt out.

In general, it's not a good idea to give your friends' personal information to third parties--especially companies known for aggressive marketing tactics--without their prior consent.
