How to Use Crepe Paper to Dye Eggs

Crepe paper streamers come in a variety of festive colors. You can use these same bright colors to dye your Easter eggs.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Crepe Paper Dye

  1. Step 1

    Cut two yards of crepe paper streamer.

  2. Step 2

    Put the streamer in a saucepan.

  3. Step 3

    Fill the saucepan with 2 cups water.

  4. Step 4

    Add 2 tsps. white vinegar.

  5. Step 5

    Place a raw egg on a slotted spoon and lower it gently into the saucepan.

  6. Step 6

    Place the saucepan on the stove and cook over medium heat until the water begins to boil.

  7. Step 7

    Turn down the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.

  8. Step 8

    Remove the egg with a slotted spoon.

  9. Step 9

    Rinse the egg with water and put it in the refrigerator to cool.

  10. Crepe Paper Wrap

  11. Step 1

    Pour 2 cups water and 2 tsps. white vinegar into a saucepan.

  12. Step 2

    Place the saucepan on the stove and cook over medium heat until the water begins to boil.

  13. Step 3

    Remove the saucepan from the stove.

  14. Step 4

    Cut one yard of crepe paper streamer for each egg you will be coloring.

  15. Step 5

    Place the streamer in the saucepan and press it down with a spoon so it is totally submerged in the hot water.

  16. Step 6

    Remove the streamer from the hot water with tongs.

  17. Step 7

    Place it on a piece of newspaper on the table or counter.

  18. Step 8

    Set a hard-boiled egg on top of the streamer and wrap the streamer around the egg, completely covering it.

  19. Step 9

    Wait about 15 minutes, then unwrap the egg.

Tips & Warnings
  • To ensure that the eggs are dyed an even color, turn them every two or three minutes while they are in the dye mixture.
  • Use a larger saucepan and increase the amount of water, vinegar and crepe paper to color more eggs.
  • The crepe paper streamers will be hot when you take them out of the saucepan. Handle them with care.
  • Make sure the streamers were colored with nontoxic dyes if you plan to eat these eggs later.
  • Always keep eggs - raw or cooked - in the refrigerator.
