Step 1
Refer to the owner's manual that came with your machine for special care instructions.

Clean and oil your serger after every 10 to 12 hours of use.

Disconnect the serger plug before you clean your machine or perform any maintenance on it.

Open the front of the serger and use a lint brush to remove any lint or dust.

Remove the serger needle, presser foot and needle plate to remove lint from underneath the needle. You may need a small screwdriver to remove the needle plate.

Use sewing machine oil on your serger if recommended by the manufacturer. Apply a few drops to those areas indicated in your owner's manual. The parts that need oil will usually be located around the lower and upper loopers.

Dust the casing of your serger with a lint-free cloth; and if needed, remove stubborn dirt from the casing with a damp cloth and a small amount of liquid soap.

Have your serger professionally maintained every three to four months. If you use your serger more than 10 or 12 hours a week, take your machine in for maintenance more frequently.
