Stripes are not only a trend for clothing and accessories but also in nail art design. If you are looking to spice up your safe, traditional pink manicure with a bold yet relatively simple design, try painting a black stripe in the middle of your nail. This pink and black graphic look is feminine with an edge and gives off a rock 'n' roll princess vibe.
Things You'll Need
- Cotton balls
- Nail polish remover
- Orange wood stick (optional)
- Nail trimmer (optional)
- Nail file (optional)
- Clear base-coat nail polish
- Pink nail polish
- Black nail polish
- Adhesive cloth medical tape
- Tweezers (optional)
- Clear, top-coat nail polish
- Black nail polish pen (optional)
Remove any existing nail polish on your nails using a cotton ball dipped in nail polish remover. Wash your hands with warm, soapy water and then thoroughly dry them. If desired, use an orange wood stick to push back your cuticles and then trim and file your nails.
Apply one coat of clear, base-coat nail polish to your nails. Wait one minute for it to dry.
Apply one coat of pink nail polish to your nails. For best results, apply the pink nail polish to each nail using three strokes, starting with one down the middle of your nail and then one on each side of your nail. For more opaque color, apply another coat of pink nail polish to your nails. Wait for the pink nail polish to completely dry before proceeding to the next step.
Cut adhesive cloth medical tape, which can be found in the first aid section of most drugstores, into 20 strips. Each strip should be about 1/16 of an inch wide and 3/4 of an inch long. If you have really long nails, you may need to cut the strips a little longer.
Apply two pieces of your pre-cut tape strips lengthwise to each of your nails to create a stencil for painting a stripe down the length of your nail. The distance between the pieces of tape will equal the width of the vertical stripe you will be creating with black nail polish. Alternatively, if you want to paint a horizontal stripe across the middle of your nail, apply the two pre-cut tape strips in a horizontal direction across the your nail. If you are having trouble applying the tape strips to your nails, try applying them with tweezers.
Apply two coats of black nail polish to the area between the two tape strips on each nail. Wait for the black nail polish to completely dry and then carefully remove the tape strips from your nails.
Apply one coat of clear, top-coat nail polish to your nails to prevent chips and extend the life of your manicure.
