How to Crochet Bear Hat With Earflaps
Little-bear hats with earflaps are ideal for the cold winter months. They make great gifts for children and adults alike. Additionally, crocheted bear-hat patterns are easy to follow and fun to do. As long as you have your hook and yarn, you can work on it anywhere.
Things You'll Need
- Crochet hook, size 4
- Crochet hook, size 5
- Worsted yarn in brown (or other color of your choice)
- Yarn needle for sewing
- Stitch marker

Making Hat

Using a size 4 crochet hook, chain two, crochet six single crochets in second chain and place a stitch marker.

Crochet two single crochets in each stitch for a total of 12 single crochets.

Work in both loops and crochet two single crochets in every other single crochet stitch for a total of 18 single crochets.

Repeat step 3, adding six additional single crochet stitches in each row until you have 48 stitches around.

Crochet one single crochet stitch into each of the stitches until the hat measures 6 to 7 inches. Once you are done, weave in the ends.
Crochet Ears

Using a size 5 crochet hook, chain two, crochet six single crochets in the second chain and place a stitch marker.

Crochet two single crochets in each individual stitch until you reach 12 single crochet stitches.

Single crochet two stitches in every other single crochet stitch until you reach a total of 18 single crochets.

Finally, crochet one single crochet in each stitch around the ears and finish off. Weave in the ends, and sew each ear to the sides of the hat using the same color thread.

You might try to embroider eyes and a nose to the front of the hat to make it more bear-like.
