How to Keep Laminate Flooring From Streaking

Laminate floors are durable and hold up under the wear and tear of kids, pets and high traffic. To keep the floors looking their best, regular cleaning is necessary. Floor cleaners designed specifically for laminate floors are available. You can make your own laminate floor cleaner with common household supplies. Use a clean microfiber pad for mopping, and your floors will be streak free every time you mop.

Things You'll Need

• Dust mop
• Vacuum cleaner
• White vinegar
• Spray bottle
• Microfiber mop

Instructions

1. Dust mop or vacuum the floor to remove dust and grit.

2. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar in 1 gallon of warm water. Pour the solution into a spray bottle.

3. Spray a small section of the floor with the vinegar solution.

4. Mop the floor with a microfiber pad. Mop with the grain pattern of the wood until all moisture is absorbed. Repeat until the entire floor is clean.

5. Wipe or mop the floor with a dry microfiber pad for a streak-free finish.

Tips & Warnings

• Add 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol to the cleaning solution to promote faster drying.

• Do not use soap, wax or polishes on a laminate floor.

• Remove stains or grease marks from the floor by rubbing them with a cloth dampened with a vinegar and water solution, or an ammonia and water solution.

• Avoid letting water stand on a laminate floor, to prevent warping or buckling.
