How to Anti Static Fine Hair thumbnail
Dryness causes static fly aways.

Cold, dry weather causes fine hair to fray from static electricity. Rather than don a tight bun, ponytail or excess hairspray, change the way you manage your hair and wash your clothes. Taking a few extra steps in the shower and during your grooming and laundry routine puts an end to the unwelcome static electricity. Experiment with different products to find which work best for you. If your hair is super fine, you might need to choose a conditioning treatment instead of using a standard product. Instructions

    • 1

Use dryer sheets when washing your cloths. Putting on electrically charged clothing creates static. If you want to wear a hat, choose one made of cotton.

    • 2

Switch your regular shampoo and conditioner, as harsh shampoos further dry out fine hair. Look for a silicone-based shampoo and a deep conditioner. If you don't want to change your conditioner brand, spray in leave-in conditioner after shampooing and conditioning as normal.

    • 3

Blow-dry your hair with an ionic ceramic hairdryer. According to Ron Kurtus' School of Champions website, this hair dryer retains moisture and removes static charge. Avoid plastic brushes and combs; use a rubber-bristled brush instead.

    • 4

Spread a small amount of hand moisturizer through your locks. Use only the excess lotion on your hands after rubbing the lotion into your hands as normal.

    • 5

Use a small amount of hairspray to set your hair if necessary. Keep a dryer sheet with you if the static returns. Quickly and gently run the dryer sheet over the top of your hair to discharge the static electricity.
