Create an intricate tablecloth with grapes using nothing but a crochet hook and yarn.

One of the most amazing things about crocheting is the ability to create intricate shapes and patterns out of nothing but yarn and a hook. One such stitch, the Popcorn, allows you to create raised baubles that cluster together. These baubles can look like grapes when clustered properly. Crocheting a tablecloth with popcorn-stitched grapes can be done by creating several granny squares--or small self-contained patterned squares--which are then stitched together to create a final product.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a slip knot, then chain stitch five stitches.

    • 2

Begin to popcorn stitch on the stitch closest to the hook, but doing five double crochet stitches in this stitch. Drop the stitch, then pick up the first double crochet stitch by sliding your hook through it from front to back. Pick up the loop you just dropped, then pull it through the other stitch. This will create your first bauble or "grape."

    • 3

Insert the hook into the first chain stitch and create a circle by connecting the last stitch of the grape with a slip stitch. This is the beginning center of your granny square.

    • 4

Chain stitch two stitches, then repeat the popcorn stitch process on the third stitch to make another grape in the bunch. Repeat this with the fourth stitch, then crochet one stitch. Double crochet in a circle twice.

    • 5

Chain stitch two, then popcorn stitch the third, fourth and fifth stitches to create more grapes. You can create any arrangement of grapes that you would like by popcorn stitching the stitch that you want to bauble.

    • 6

Chain stitch two stitches, then double crochet three stitches in a circle. Repeat this once, then chain stitch two more stitches and join to the first chain stitch with a slip stitch.

    • 7

Create the crochet square. Chain two stitches, then turn your work over. Double crochet two stitches, chain two stitches, then double crochet three stitches. This will make one corner of your granny square. Chain stitch one stitch, then double crochet three. Chain two and double crochet three again to make the next corner. Repeat this process two more times to finish all four corners of the square.

    • 8

Chain one stitch, then connect it with the closest edge stitch using a slip stitch. Continue to add rows and corner clusters using the method for crocheting a square, adding clusters until you have achieve the size of granny square that you desire.

    • 9

Repeat the process for making granny squares with grapes using the popcorn stitch until you have enough squares to make a tablecloth of the size that you desire. The amount of squares will vary based on your table size and the size of the squares.

    • 10

Connect the squares together to complete the tablecloth. Stitch them on the sides using an upholstery needle and matching yarn.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to crochet fewer granny squares, make the squares bigger so they cover more space.
