How to Decorate With Blue and Burgandy

A navy blue and burgundy color scheme will give a room a rich, elegant look. You can use the color duo to enhance any room, such as a master bedroom, bathroom, den or living room. Burgundy is a deep wine shade, which will bring warmth to navy blue decor. Navy blue will accent sultry burgundy items by providing a cool contrast. If the room is already all burgundy or all blue, work the opposite color into the design little by little if you're on a tight redecorating budget.

Things You'll Need

  • Wall paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Dark wood furniture
  • Navy blue and burgundy textiles
  • Gold decor items
  • Red roses
  • Milk glass vase
  • Paint the room's walls a light, neutral shade, such as white or ecru, to balance out the dark blue and burgundy colors. Use either navy blue or burgundy paint if you prefer a bold, dramatic look.

  • Choose furniture pieces constructed of dark wood, such as mahogany or cherry, to complement the rich colors. Place a matching wood coffee table, side table and entertainment center in a living room. Enhance a bedroom with a coordinating wood bed headboard, night stand and dresser set.

  • Decorate the space with navy blue and burgundy textiles. Place burgundy throw pillows on a navy blue sofa or place navy blue pillows on a burgundy bed comforter or quilt. Place a plush navy blue or burgundy rug in the center of a wooden floor. Hang either blue or burgundy curtains against neutral-hued walls.

  • Incorporate touches of gold into the decor scheme to brighten the look. Place family photos or pieces of artwork in burnished gold frames and hang them on the wall. Replace silver hardware, such as dresser handles, towel racks, wall hooks and drawer pulls, with gold versions as an opulent touch. Choose a table lamp featuring a gold base and a white or cream-colored shade.

  • Place fresh red roses, which will complement the burgundy decor, in a vintage milk glass vase. Display the vase on a wall shelf, night stand, coffee table, vanity table or bookcase to infuse the room with a sweet scent.
