How to Repair a Microwave Oven With a Chip in the Enamel

Touch-up enamel paint can restore the microwave finish.

The exterior enamel finish on a microwave oven can chip or scratch if a heavy or sharp object bangs against the appliance. To restore the appearance of your microwave, buy an appliance touch-up repair kit in a color to match the finish on the oven. White and black are the most common microwave colors. Repairing the damage may require several applications of the enamel paint to build up the layers that were chipped away.

Things You'll Need

• Degreaser cleaning solution in a spray bottle
• Sponge
• Paper towels
• Appliance touch-up kit

Instructions

1. Spray cleaning solution on a sponge to wipe down the area around the chipped microwave surface. Removing grease and grime helps the paint adhere to the surface.

2. Shake the paint bottle to mix the ingredients, which may separate over time.

3. Unscrew the cap on the bottle to pull out the applicator attached to the bottom of the cap.

4. Paint the chipped area until covered and let dry. For a smooth repair, add coats of paint to build up the layers lost from a deep gouge.
