Instructions

    • 1

Lay out a piece of waistcoat fabric the width of your old long-sleeve shirt. A sweatshirt will give you the ideal weight. Lay the old shirt on top of the waistcoat fabric.

    • 2

Cut the fabric out around the shirt, giving 1/4 to 1/2 inch of extra room around the shirt. Then, cut out another piece of waistcoast fabric using the same pattern.

    • 3

Sew the sides of the waistcoat fabric pieces together, leaving a hole for the neck and the bottom open. If needed, sew an extra piece of waistcoat fabric all the way around the bottom of this "shirt" to bring the hem where it stops right above your knee.

    • 4

Add decorative items like shiny, brass buttons to the front. You can draw the buttonholes around where the buttons would go, using a Sharpie or fabric pen.
