Making a Beaded Wedding Veil
-
1
Lay the fabric straight and flat on a clean surface. Fold two yards of tulle or netting of 45 inches in half if you want a short veil. Use 4 yards if you want a longer veil. Sew the tulle with a gathering stitch about 4 inches from the fold. A gathering stitch is a straight seam where you weave the needle in and out of fabric in a straight line. Use short stitches to make the hem delicate. Cut the bottom of the tulle in rounded corners if you want a fluffy veil hem.

2
Stitch ribbon around the bottom of the veil if you want this trim. Measure the ribbon to the circumference of the veil. Iron the ribbon before you sew it to the veil so the ribbon will not bunch the veil. Do not iron netting or tulle because it will melt. Attach the top of the veil material to the top of a comb with fabric glue or attach the top of a veil to a hat form with fabric glue. Do not use hot gun glue because this might melt on a hot summer day. Alternatively, sew the the tulle into the comb or underneath the hat form.

Stitch beads on the ribbon with running stitches. A running stitch is a stitch that passes the needle over and under the fabric. The upper stitches are of equal length in a straight line. Use white, pink, cream or transparent thread, depending on the color of the dress. Cut thread no longer than 15 inches. Knot one end of the thread. Bring the threaded needle up through the fabric from the under side to the upper part of the fabric. Thread a bead onto the needle. Bring the needle back through the fabric to the under side close to the bead. Make a backstitch, a seam where you bring the thread through on the stitch line and then take a small backward stitch onto the line, to secure the thread.

Alternatively, glue beads onto the comb or hat form with fabric glue. Use small seed beads in cream, white or pink hues according to the dress color. Do not use a hot glue gun because the glue will not stay in hot weather.
