How to Decorate Baskets With Satin Ribbon for an Engagement

Save

Getting engaged to the love of your life is an occasion that calls for celebration. Hosting a party, whether it be an intimate affair for friends and family, or a bigger event, is a fun and exciting way to announce your impending marriage. Engagement parties call for decorations; if you are going for a country or fall theme, decorate tables and surfaces with wicker baskets. Wicker baskets of all sizes can be dressed up with lengths of satin ribbon that match the color scheme of the event.

Things You'll Need

  • Wicker baskets
  • Satin ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Satin ribbon bows (optional)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Choose satin ribbon that matches the theme of your engagement party. For example, shades of brown, red and orange suit themes incorporating the country or the fall season. Select wider ribbon for decorating larger wicker baskets, and thinner ribbon for decorating smaller wicker baskets. Consider using two colors to decorate the baskets.

  • Measure and cut a length of satin ribbon, using a measuring tape and scissors, to fit around the outside of the wicker basket, just underneath the lip. Use hot glue to secure the satin ribbon around the wicker basket.

  • Measure the length of the wicker basket's handle. Double this measurement and cut a matching length of satin ribbon. If you are using two colors of ribbon, cut one piece of each color according to this measurement.

  • Adhere the length of ribbon you cut in Step 3 to the inside of the base of one side of the wicker basket's handle using hot glue. Wrap the ribbon around the basket's handle until you reach the opposite side.

  • Secure the end of the satin ribbon to the base of the opposite side of the handle using hot glue. Use scissors to trim off any excess ribbon.

  • Repeat Steps 4 and 5 if you are using a second color of satin ribbon. Wrap the second piece of ribbon around the handle in such a way that you can see both colors.

  • Glue a matching satin ribbon bow to the center of the front of the basket, if desired. Alternatively, glue a satin bow to each side of the basket, where the handle reaches the base. Adjust the size of the satin ribbon bows depending on the size of the basket.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fill the basket with decorative items that match the theme of the engagement party, such as flower petals or pieces of fruit.
  • Exercise caution when working with sharp scissors and hot glue guns.
