How to Attach Pinch Pleated Drapes to Drapery Rings

Save

Decorative curtain rods don't have to be hidden behind a valance or cornice. They look nice on their own, but they're designed for curtain rings. Pinch pleated curtains are traditionally hung with hooks on flat rods, not from curtain rings. There are several ways to attach pinch pleated drapes to curtain rings so the drapes can be hung on decorative rods when valances and cornices are out of style.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2-inch washers for screws (optional)
  • Four-prong hooks (optional)
  • Pin hooks (optional)
  • Needle (optional)
  • Thread (optional)

Rings with Clips

  • Clip a 1/2-inch washer, the kind designed to be used with a screw, onto the clip hanging from each ring.

  • Stick a pin hook into the curtain behind each pleat. Insert the hooks so the top of the hook is 1/4 inch below the top of the curtains. Use four-prong hooks for curtains made with pleater tape. Use pin hooks with curtains with sewn-in pleats. Stick a pin hook into the fabric, 1/2 inch from each end of the top of the curtains.

  • Hang a ring for each hook on the rod. Insert the hooks through the washers on the curtain rings.

Wooden Rings

  • Turn the eyelet on a wooden hook so it's parallel to the hook.

  • Thread a needle with 28 inches of strong thread and knot the ends together.

  • Place the eyelet between the middle two pleats, 1/8 inch below the top edge. Stitch through both pleats. Turn the needle and stick it through the eyelet. Stitch through both pleats again and bring the needle back through the eyelet. Sew through the pleats and the eyelet about 10 times, pulling the thread tight with each stitch. Knot the thread close to the fabric and cut off the excess.

  • Sew a ring on each pleat.

  • Turn the eyelet on two rings perpendicular to the ring. Sew these eyelets 1/4 inch from the end of the top edge on each side. Hang the rings on the rod.

Wooden Rings and Hooks

  • Insert hooks into the curtains as described in the first section.

  • Turn the eyelets on the wooden rings perpendicular to the ring.

  • Hang the rings on the rods and Insert the hooks through the eyelets.
