Instructions

    • 1

Measure around the head with a tape measure and cut a length of floral wire with the wire cutters to fit the head. Bend each tip of the wire into a 1/2-inch fold. The Mayday crown traditionally sits around the forehead. This style crown is open-backed and adjustable. It is tied closed with ribbon at the back of the head.

    • 2

Cut several lengths of colorful ribbons. Tie the ribbons onto the ends of the wires and pinch the bent tips on the wire closed to encase the ribbons. Try the crown on and trim the ends of the ribbons to your preferred length. The ribbons in the back of the crown make it adjustable. You will use one or two on each side to tie the crown to your head.

    • 3

Wrap floral tape around the bent tips of the wire to enclose the rough edges and the knots from the ribbon. Stretch the floral tape as you wrap to make it stick to the stem and wire.

    • 4

Cut the flowers off their long stems with the wire cutters or scissors, leaving a 1-inch stem attached.

    • 5

Hold the first flower at one end of the wire with the stem facing the center and the flower facing the nearest tip of wire. Wrap floral tape around the stem a few times to attach it, stretching as you wrap. Continue adding flowers to the wire, with each flower overlapping the previous stem, until the wire crown is completely covered. The flowers will all be facing in the same direction. You may crowd more flowers onto the crown by slightly overlapping some of the petals of one flower onto the previous flower.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a few bobby pins to attach the crown to the hair for added stability.

  • Use real spring flowers to create a traditional Mayday crown.
