How to Make a Chandelier Cake Stand

Cakes, cupcakes and cookies look even more delectable on a sparkly bejeweled chandelier cake stand. You can easily turn a ho-hum cake stand into an attractive centerpiece with a ribbon, tape and crystals. The tape enables you to reposition the crystals each time you use your cake stand so the looks are endless and the stand is easy to clean. Purchase a vintage cake stand at a garage sale or an antique store and create a chandelier cake stand in an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • Cake stand
  • Satin ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape
  • Bead strands, crystal or plastic
  • Turn the cake stand upside down and set it down on the work surface. Unroll the satin ribbon from the spool.

  • Measure the amount of ribbon needed to line the inside circumference of the cake stand. Cut the ribbon with your scissors.

  • Lay the ribbon flat on the work surface. Unroll the double-sided tape and place on top of the ribbon. The ribbon should be covered with one long piece of double-sided tape.

  • Arrange the crystal or plastic bead strands on the work surface. Decide the order in which you would like them to hang and how far apart they need to be spaced. Once you have chosen your design, stick the tops of the strands to the double-sided tape on the ribbon.

  • Place a piece of tape on the inside edge of the bottom of the cake stand. Flip the cake stand over and place on the work surface.

  • Pick up the ribbon. The beads should be dangling down from the ribbon. Stick the flat side of the ribbon to the tape on the underside of the cake stand. Press the ribbon against the tape with medium pressure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remove the ribbon, tape and beads before you wash your cake plate.
