How to Decoupage Fabric on a Metal Bucket
A decoupaged bucket makes a sweet trick-or-treat pail, centerpiece base or place to stow kids' toys or your knitting supplies. A decoupage medium is used to adhere scraps of fabric to a metal bucket to make a one-of-a-kind craft. The entire project is simple, inexpensive and fun to do, and you'll be amazed how cool the fabric looks on the bucket.

1
Wash the fabric you're using for this project. Use a mild detergent and don't add any fabric softener to the rinse. Iron the fabric once it's clean so it can be decoupaged neatly to the bucket.
-
2
Clean the pail with soap and water if it is needed. Dry the bucket thoroughly before starting the decoupage process.

3
Measure the bucket to make sure you cut enough fabric to adhere. For a collage effect, use squares of fabric, or wrap one piece of fabric around the entire bucket for a more solid look. Cut the fabric to the dimensions required.
-
4
Brush the Mod Podge decoupage medium onto the back side of the fabric you are using. Place the fabric on to the bucket and press it down to adhere it and smooth out wrinkles.
-
5
Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge over the fabric to seal it and create a smooth surface for the bucket. Repeat this process until the bucket is covered with fabric as you desire. For stubborn wrinkles, use a brayer or craft stick to smooth them out.
-
6
Tie ribbons to the bucket's handle for extra embellishment, or decoupage lengths of ribbon around the edges of the bucket to add a border.
