How to Make Curtains With Scarf Brackets
Scarf fabric is thin, often transparent fabric with the same design on the front and back. Large pieces of scarf fabric can be used to make a sheer curtain that drapes lightly at a window. While scarf fabric can be wrapped around a rod, the best way to enhance the draped effect is with decorative brackets installed directly into the wall. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Drill with screwdriver bits
- Ornament hooks
- Clear nail polish
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the window's length and add 6 inches to the left and right of the window for the curtain.
-
2
Divide this measurement by the total number of brackets you have minus two (for the curtain hooks). Ideally, the brackets should be spread roughly 6 inches apart.
-
-
3
Mark the locations of the brackets with a pencil.
-
4
Drill pilot holes where each bracket will be positioned. The drill bit should be one size smaller than the screws you'll be using.
-
5
Screw the brackets into place.
-
6
Measure the curtain panels and divide by half of the brackets. Measure the curtain again and paint a 1/4-inch circle of clear nail polish at each of the positions where the curtain will hang on a bracket. This will prevent the scarf fabric from fraying. Let the polish dry completely.
-
7
Poke the ornament hooks through the scarf fabric in the polished circles and hang the hooks on the brackets.
-
8
Determine where along the widow you want the curtains to hook when pulled back and mark this location with a pencil.
-
9
Install the last two brackets as curtain hooks. Stand back and admire your new scarf curtains.
